As a result of their governments' failure to address climate pollution, young people are increasingly suing them in court, and sporadically winning. Their efforts were supported this week by the Committee on the Rights of the Child, a free-standing expert panel that interprets international human rights law. The committee stated that all nations have a legal commitment to safeguard children from environmental deterioration, including by "regulating business enterprises," and to allow their minor people to seek legal action, in a lengthy 20-page study released on Monday.
