Why the Republican party is red — even thought red usually means the Left

In the U.S., red has become the color of the Republican Party, a media convention born from television graphics during the 2000 presidential election. This accidental branding, where red was assigned to Republicans and blue to Democrats, has since become a cultural shorthand for the nation's deep political polarization, despite red's global association with the Left.
