Factory Ruins Become Park: smokestack becomes Rastin Observation Tower; three lakes surround trails

Mount Vernon's Ariel-Foundation Park now spans 250 acres, blending industrial remnants with natural beauty. A historic smokestack, once part of a glass factory, now serves as an observation tower. Three large lakes were created from former gravel quarries, enhancing the landscape. Walking trails connect various park features and extend to other recreational networks. This adaptive reuse project successfully transformed a deteriorating factory site into a recognizable public space.
