Dominica Says 'No' To Hosting T20 World Cup 2024

Dominica will be unable to meet the deadline for completing the construction work of their stadiums and the government on Thursday announced its decision to withdraw from hosting their allotted matches of the T20 World Cup next year. Windsor Park was shortlisted to host one group match and two Super Eight games as Dominica was one of seven countries in the Caribbean shortlisted to host the T20 World Cup.

The T20 showpiece is being co-hosted by the West Indies and the USA from June 4-30 next year. "Several tangible actions were taken both at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium and at the Benjamin's Park including the commencement of upgrading and enhancement of the practice and match venues, various assessments and the creation of additional pitches where necessary," a statement from the Dominica government's read.

"However, the implementation timelines submitted by the various contractors revealed that it would not be possible to complete these works within the stipulated timeframe before the commencement of the tournament. As a result, a decision was taken not to host any of the matches in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 as it would not be prudent for the Government of Dominica to commit to hosting these games.

"In light of Dominica's sterling reputation in hosting international cricket, this decision is considered to be in the best interest of all. The Government of Dominica thanks Cricket West Indies (CWI) for its partnership over the years and looks forward to continued collaboration in the future. The Government of Dominica extends best wishes to the organisers for a successful tournament in June 2024." The ICC is yet to respond to the development.

Mamata Banerjee Requests Release Of Health Funds In 2-Page Letter To PM

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to intervene to remove the colour branding conditionalities for health and wellness centres and release National Health Mission (NHM) funds to Bengal.

Withholding of funds by the Centre will deprive the poor of their health benefits, she said in her two-page letter to the prime minister.

"It is most unfortunate that very recently, I am informed that the Union ministry of health and family welfare has withheld fund release under the National Health Mission to West Bengal due to non-compliance with certain colour branding guidelines for health and wellness centres, despite other conditionalities being fulfilled. The withholding of fund release would adversely deprive the poor people of their benefit," she wrote.

Ms Banerjee said currently there are around 11,000 functional health and wellness centres in the state which serve over three lakh people everyday. The buildings have been constructed since 2011 (when Trinamool came to power) in accordance with the colour branding in the state.

"I would earnestly request you to kindly intervene for the immediate release of NHM funds for West Bengal and for the removal of specific colour branding conditionalities for the health and wellness centres for the release of funds under the NHM so that poor people do not suffer from lack of quality health services," Ms Banerjee added.

Central government's terms and conditions have specified that the colour of the buildings of the health centres should be metallic yellow with a khaki border.

Government buildings in Bengal are mostly painted blue and white.

The Bengal Chief Minister also mentioned that her government "accords top priority to the welfare of its people with special emphasis on the poorer and marginalised section of its society".

"In our endeavour, we are providing affordable, accessible and quality health care to all free of cost. There has been a significant increase in our budgetary allocation to health care in the last 12 years and many important public health initiatives such as the construction of super specialty hospitals, Swasthyasathi, Sishusathi, Matrima, Chokher Alo, etc., have been successfully launched in the last few years and a large number of people have benefitted," she said.

She also mentioned that Bengal has been the front-runner in the implementation of different public health programmes under the NHM.

Fraud Cases In Supreme Court Tend To Increase As Polls Near: Chief Justice

The number of "fraud cases" in the Supreme Court tends to increase as elections draw closer and the court becomes a site for political engagement, Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud said on Thursday.

Speaking at the Constitution Day function organised by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) in the Supreme Court, Chief Justice Chandrachud said we all exist together and the Indian Constitution tells us that "we either survive or we perish together".

"But above all, I think it is important that on a day where we celebrate the Constitution, we learn to discharge our duties to the cause of justice. Our duty to the cause of justice ranks much higher than the success or failure in individual cases," he said.

"Just yesterday, I had to deal with a fraud case. The Supreme Court deals with fraud cases every day. Some courts have more than their share of fraud cases and there are some times as elections come, the number of fraud cases tends to increase in the court and we as judges realise it," the CJI said.

Constitution Day is celebrated across the country on November 26 every year.

Chief Justice Chandrachud said after elections get over, things settle down and "as the polls come closer and closer, the court becomes a site for political engagement. That is a truth of our society. I am not looking at it with any value judgement".

Chief Justice Chandrachud, who also addressed the gathering in Hindi for a few minutes, said freedom and the Constitution have an unbreakable relationship.

Speaking about the legal profession, the CJI said it is a profession of diversity, including diversity in terms of gender. He said be it the judges or lawyers, all have come from different parts of the country in search of a better livelihood.

"But in the process of giving each one of us a better livelihood, we are also engaged in providing a better existence to our fellow citizens. That is the big power which all of you command as lawyers," he said.

Referring to the attire of judges and lawyers, the CJI said it reminds us that the "similarity of our attire is a symbol of the common existence which we share". It was for the members of the Bar to make the legal profession broad-based and inclusive, Chief Justice Chandrachud said while highlighting the need to encourage young lawyers.

"And remember, ultimately, it is if you support the institution of justice, which is to ensure that you support the independence of your own judiciary, that the judiciary can truly be able to discharge its duties," he said.

"If you are not giving to the judiciary its own sense of due, how will you expect them to discharge their own obligations towards society. Because your judges come from you and they return to you. They are not distinct from you," he said.

He said members of the Bar are also here for the betterment of the profession, to serve the cause of justice and to ensure that the other side of the profession, the judges, who are duty bound to act in aid of justice, continue to do so.

"You have to not merely protect your judges, but you have to hold them to account as well," he said.

Sharing a story, Chief Justice Chandrachud said sometime back, one of his colleagues had an attack of dengue and there was a need for blood transfusion.

"But we drew on the credit of the blood which was given by our employees during the last blood donation camp…my colleague came back to normalcy very quickly by the blood transfusion," he said, adding this was again a reminder that all of us are bound together in this cycle of existence.

"None of us in that sense is different from the other. None of us stands alone," Chief Justice Chandrachud said.

Karthik Slams Fifty As Tamil Nadu Beat Baroda In Vijay Hazare Trophy Clash

Veteran Dinesh Karthik was back at his vintage best to smash a quickfire half-century as Tamil Nadu overcame a jittery start to down Baroda by 38 runs in a low-scoring group E match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy domestic one-dayers, in Mumbai on Wednesday. Put in, Tamil Nadu were reeling at 52/5 when the skipper dig in with all his experience to rescue the team with a 51-ball 68 featuring nine fours and two sixes for his 40th List A fifty.

Tamil Nadu were soon reduced to 52/6, but Karthik held fort and put together a 75-run partnership with Shahrukh Khan (31; 39b) to help them go past 150.

Lukman Meriwala (4/21 from 7 overs) and Ninad Rathva (3/23 from 7.3 overs) were the pick of the bowlers for Baroda as Tamil Nadu's innings lasted just 33.3 overs.

In reply, Baroda were shot out for 124 in 23.3 overs with T Natarajan leading the charge in his 7-1-38-4, while spin twins Varun Chakravarthy and R Sai Kishore sharing five wickets between them.

Padikkal on song

Karnataka batter Devdutt Padikkal continued with his silken touch in the format, scoring a 57-ball 93 not out to steer them to a seven-wicket win over Bihar in a group C contest at Ahmedabad.

Batting at No 4, Padikkal hit nine boundaries and five sixes as Karnataka made short work of Bihar, chasing down the 218-target in just 33.4 overs.

This was the India A batter's fourth fifty-plus score in as many matches and he also has a century to his name to be the leading rungetter of the meet.

Openers Mayank Agarwal (28) and Ravikumar Samarth (4) got out cheaply but Padikkal and Nikin Jose (69) effortlessly took their team over the line.

Jagadeesha Suchith was the pick of their bowling as he returned with a tidy 10-2-27-3 as Bihar were restricted to 217/7 after Karnataka skipper Agarwal opted to bowl.

Sakibul Gani waged a lone battle for Bihar with a 100-ball 113 not out as wickets kept on falling around him.

Shashank slams 152, grabs five-for

Shashank Singh produced a spectacular all-round effort —152 (113b) and 5/20 in five overs — as Chhattisgarh thrashed Manipur by 88 runs in a group B match at Jaipur.

Chhattisgarh lost their top three for only 16 inside nine overs after Manipur chose to bowl, but thereafter it was all about their No 5 batter Shashank who smashed 12 fours and seven sixes in his counter-attacking knock.

Skipper Amandeep Khare (88) also provided a fine support as the duo consolidated after the anxious start.

After the pair's departure, Ajay Mandal (43 not out; 20b) propped them to an imposing 342/6.

Shashank returned to shine with the ball, grabbing a five-wicket haul as Manipur managed 254/9.

Samson flops again but Kerala win

Sanju Samson failed with the bat yet again as he was dismissed for a five-ball one, but Kerala had it easy in defeating Tripura by 119 runs in a group A clash at Alur.

Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammed Azharuddeen top-scored for Kerala with a 61-ball 58 as he, along with Rohan Kunnummal (44; 70b), gave Kerala a strong start with a 95-run opening alliance.

But Kerala suffered a middle-order collapse to be bowled out for 231 in 47.1 overs. In reply, Tripura folded for 112. Akhin Sathar, Akhil Scaria and Vaisakh Chandran took eight wickets between them.

J&K stun Delhi

Jammu and Kashmir's new ball bowler Rasikh Salam (4/23) dismantled Delhi's top order to complement opener Shubham Khajuria's splendid 109 as they stunned Delhi by 75 runs in another group C clash at Ahmedabad.

Put in, J&K rode on their skipper's century to post 299/7. In reply, Delhi were bundled out for 224 in 45.3 overs. Lalit Yadav was Delhi's top-scorer (67) but none of their other batters could provide any resistance.

Gujarat High Court Dismisses Petition Seeking Ban On Loudspeakers At Mosques

The Gujarat High Court on Tuesday dismissed a public interest Litigation seeking a ban on the use of loudspeakers for 'azaan' or the Islamic call to prayer at mosques, terming the plea as "wholly misconceived." A division bench of Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal and Justice Aniruddha P Mayee also asked, during the hearing, if it was the petitioner's case that the noise of bells and gongs during 'aarti' at a temple is not heard outside.

The petition, filed by Bajrang Dal leader Shaktisinh Zala, claimed that "noise pollution" caused by 'azaan' when played through loudspeakers affects people's, especially children's health and causes inconvenience otherwise. However, the High Court noted that the claims in the petition had no scientific foundation.

Azaan is conducted for a maximum of ten minutes at a time at different hours of the day, the court pointed out. "We fail to understand how the human voice making azan through loudspeaker in the morning could achieve the decibel (level) to the extent of creating noise pollution, causing health hazards for the public at large," it further said.

"We are not entertaining this kind of PIL. It is a faith and practice going for years, and it is for 5-10 minutes. In your temple, the morning aarti with drums and music also starts early at 3 am. So it does not cause any kind of noise to anyone? Can you say the noise of ghanta (bell) and ghadiyal (gong) remains in temple premises only, does not percolate outside the temple?" the court asked the petitioner's lawyer.

There is a scientific method for measuring noise pollution, but the petition does not provide any data to show that a ten-minute 'azaan' causes noise pollution, the court noted.

PCB Unwilling To Grant NOC To WC Star, BBL Participation Delayed

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to delay the No-Objection Certificate (NOC) of pacer Haris Rauf for his participation in the Big Bash League (BBL). Rauf's NOC certificate is likely to be delayed till December 11, four days after the start of the league. However, there is no confirmation that the NOC will be issued to the pacer immediately after, according to a report by ESPNcricinfo. The PCB wants the 30-year-old pacer to take part in the National T20 Cup in Pakistan, which will end on December 10, for which the apex body of the 'Men in Green' is holding the NOC certificate of the fast bowler, as per ESPNcricinfo.

Recently, Pakistan chief selector Wahab Riaz attacked speedster Haris Rauf for backing out from the forthcoming Australia Tests and said that it would hurt the 'Men in Green'.

While announcing the 18-member squad of Pakistan for their tour of Australia, the chief selector revealed that Rauf agreed to play Test cricket but later changed his mind.

"We spoke to Haris Rauf for this tour. When we spoke to him two days ago, he gave his consent to play Test cricket for Pakistan. But last night he changed his mind, and now he doesn't want to be part of this Test series. I'm revealing this because we should be honest with officials, teammates, and the public. We spoke to Haris and he was worried about his body and fitness, as well as his workload. Mohammad Hafeez and I sat with him and tried to facilitate him in every way. We told him even if he didn't perform well there, we would accept it," Wahab said earlier.

In the ODI World Cup 2023, Rauf failed to put up a quality performance. He played nine matches and scalped 16 wickets. However, he gave away 533 runs and had an economy rate of 6.74.

India Star Says "Can't Help It" After Lack Of Playing Time In World Cup

Team India went 2-0 up in a five-match series against Australia on Sunday as the Suryakumar Yadav-led side registered a 44-run win in Thiruvananthapuram. After being put into bat by Australia captain Matthew Wade, India's top-3 batters -- Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan -- all scored half-centuries, propelling India to a mammoth score of 235/4. Jaiswal smashed a 24-ball half-century before Gaikwad (58) and Kishan (52) also crossed the 50-run mark.

After Jaiswal dismissal, Kishan took the mantle of power-hitting, reaching his half-century in just 29 balls.

Kishan is one of the three members in the team for the ongoing series who were part of the World Cup squad, along with captain Suryakumar and Shreyas Iyer, who will join the side for the last two matches.

Having played just two matches during the entire tournament, Kishan lift the lid on India's World Cup final defeat. He said it was important for him to remain fresh despite not playing regularly.

"It is all hunger, when you are not a part of a great team. We played like champions at the World Cup. I was feeling bad, but you can't help it. In international cricket, times will come when you will not play but at the same time, you will have to be fresh. You will have to make it count when the time comes. When the opportunity comes, you will have to go for it," Kishan said on Jio Cinema.

Kishan played India's World Cup-opener against Australia and a game against Afghanistan, registering scores of 0 and 47, respectively.

After near-flawless batting performance in back-to-back games, the new-look Indian team would like to keep its foot firmly on the pedal in Guwahati, a venue that has traditionally been a batting belter. And there is no reason to think that the 22-yard strip is any different this time also.

The 40,000 spectators, expected to fill up the stands, would expect a run-feast from the talented Indian batting unit, which would want to add to the 36 boundaries and 24 maximums it has collectively hit across the two games.

For Australia, some of their senior players like Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis and Adam Zampa have been in India for nine weeks and fatigue is showing. They need considerable rest before their next assignments.

All the four will play in Big Bash League next month. For Smith, the Pakistan Test series would be his next international assignment.

"Companies Waiting": What S Somnath Said About Retired ISRO Scientists

ISRO Chairman S Somanath on Saturday emphasised the necessity of deregulating unnecessary controls in the space sector to foster improved growth.

He also attributed India's significant progress in the space industry to the opening up of the sector.

Speaking to media here during the celebration of 60 years since India's first sounded rocket launch, Somanath highlighted that the involvement of the private sector in space science development has led to remarkable expansion in India's satellite-building capabilities.

"Earlier, it was only ISRO for the development and production of satellites, launch vehicles, and related technologies. ISRO has only 17,000 people and a budget of Rs 13,000 crore. It remained so for all these years," S Somanath said.

He said that India now has more than 130 startups in the space sector, with some companies boasting a workforce of 400 to 500 employees and a turnover ranging from Rs 500 to 1000 crores.

"Some of them are paying better salaries than ISRO, and the scientists retired from ISRO are in great demand. In fact, these companies are waiting for people who are retiring from ISRO," Mr Somanath said.

The ISRO chief further said that India has the potential to become an excellent hub for satellite manufacturing and could significantly expand its presence in the business.

"Technology development and progress in space science are all fine, but business is important. It has to bring money," he noted.

Currently, there are five Indian companies with the capability to manufacture satellites, and three of them have successfully manufactured and launched their satellites from foreign countries, he pointed out.

"We don't want them to launch their satellites from outside, and we want them to use our facilities. We want them to build satellites here; they can bring in the technologies from wherever they want, but build them here and launch them from here." He clarified that the expansion of the private sector in space science does not imply a reduction in ISRO's role.

"ISRO will continue to do what it does at present. We are now talking about sending men into space. ISRO will continue to strategise and grow. This is not scaling down, but scaling up," Mr Somanath said.

He said that the GSLV rocket has undergone regular upgrades, demonstrating its capability to carry a higher payload than its original design specifications.

"GSLV was designed to carry 4 tonnes of payload, but we have already successfully launched a 7.5-tonne payload. Its cryogenic stage is also being upgraded. In the semi-cryogenic stage, the new SE 120 is being developed," Mr Somanath said.

He mentioned that the PSLV, which initially had a payload capacity of 850 kg, now boasts a payload capacity of two tonnes.

Dravid, BCCI In Discussion But Board Inclined Towards New Coach, Who Is...

Rahul Dravid and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) top brass engaged in an in-depth talk about the possibilities surrounding his role as head coach with the board inclined to hand over the reins of the team to a new person keeping the T20 World Cup 2024 in mind. The person that board has in mind is VVS Laxman, the NCA Director. Dravid's two-year contract as India's head coach ended with the recent World Cup final in which Rohit Sharma's band suffered a heart-breaking six-wicket defeat to Australia.

Since then, Dravid's future as the back-room helmsman of the Indian cricket team has been constantly debated.

"Rahul and the BCCI had a talk about where things stand now. We will respect the decision taken by him. The general feeling is that with the T20 World Cup about 7-8 months away, there is time for a new coach to come in and build a team and set a process. He (Dravid) is quite aware of that," a BCCI official close to the development told PTI on condition of anonymity.

However, the official said a decision will be reached only after thoroughly thinking about all angles.

"We are also talking about whether continuity (current coach/captain combination) is needed for the (T20) WC. We are hoping to reach a decision soon so that path forward is clear," he added.

It is also understood that the board is quite happy with the way Dravid has managed the team along with captain Rohit over the last two years despite not landing any global trophies The pair has guided India to the semifinals of the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia and finals of the World Test Championship 2023 in England and the 50-over World Cup at home.

However, India won the Asia Cup beating Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in Colombo in September under their regime.

The official hinted that all the stakeholders involved including Rohit, chief selector Ajit Agarkar and a few other higher BCCI office-bearers will sit together soon to arrive at a final call.

VVS Laxman, the current NCA chief, is tipped to succeed Dravid as India head coach, and the official said they have kept their options open.

"Options are open (for head coach). He (Laxman) is familiar with the team, players and the methods. He also has experience working with the national team," he explained.

Laxman is currently with the Indian team as head coach for the five-match T20I series against Australia, and the former Indian batter has often stepped in for Dravid in the past whenever the latter was given a rest.

Retired Army Official Duped Of Over Rs 3 Lakh By Travel Agent: Cops

A retired officer of the Indian Army was allegedly duped of over Rs 3 lakh by a travel agent in Gurugram, police said on Friday.

The travel agent made the booking for Mauritius after taking Rs 3,68,500 online from the retired officer, but later cancelled the booking and got the refund fraudulently, they said.

Major (Retd) Naresh Kumar Mawa, a resident of Sector 23 in Gurugram, in his complaint, said that he had to go to meet his son, who is pursuing a medical course in Mauritius, and contacted a travel agent named Krishan Kant Sharma, a resident of Rajasthan's Jaipur, police said.

"I had made a total payment of Rs 3,68,500 to the travel agent through UPI payments in parts, but the agent cancelled the tickets after booking them including total stay without informing me and made a fraud of this amount. He switched off his phone and is not reachable," Major (Retd) Mawa said in his complaint.

An FIR was registered against the travel agent following the complaint under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Palam Vihar Police Station on Thursday, police said.

A senior police officer said they are investigating the matter and the accused will be arrested soon.

Why Was Rinku Singh's Last-Ball Six vs Australia Not Counted - Explained

India started the T20I series against Australia in some style as they notched a two-wicket win on Thursday. There was no shortage of thrill in the match. Courtesy Josh Inglis' 110, Australia notched a huge total of 208/3 in 20 overs. In reply, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan hit half-centuries as India cruised towards the target. However, both got out and it was left to Rinku Singh to take India over the line as India needed seven runs off six balls.

More drama ensued as India lost the wickets of Axar Patel, Ravi Bishnoi and Arshdeep Singh in the last over by Sean Abbott to go eight down. With India needing one off one ball, Rinku Singh hit a huge six to take India to win. However, the six was not counted and there was confusion over India's final score. The umpires then adjudged the delivery as no-ball. Since it was a no-ball, and India had got the required one run and had already won by its courtesy. Hence, the six was not counted. India ended on 209/8 in 19.5 overs.

Half-centuries by Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan helped India secure a two-wicket win over Australia in the first T20I of a five-match series at Visakhapatnam on Thursday.

This is India's highest T20I run-chase, outdoing chase of 208 against West Indies back in 2019.

India is 1-0 up in the series.

In the chase of 209, India started off well with Yashasvi Jaiswal hitting a four and six in the first over, but a miscommunication with Ruturaj Gaikwad ran out the latter for zero. India was 11/1 in 0.5 overs.

Jaiswal looked to up the attack in the next over, but Matthew Short got his first T20I wicket, removing Jaiswal for 21 off 8 balls, with two fours and two sixes. India was 22/2 in 2.3 overs.

Ishan and Suryakumar Yadav, the skipper were the fresh pair. After a brief lull, they both started hitting shots. Pacer Sean Abbott went for 20 runs in the fifth over and was hit for a four and two sixes.

India reached the 50-run mark in 4.5 overs.

At the end of the powerplay, India was 63/2, with Suryakumar (26*) and Ishan (14*) unbeaten.

The ninth over pulled India back in the game big time, with young spinner Tanveer Sangha hit for two sixes and a four by Ishan. India reached the 100-run mark in 9.1 overs.

Halfway through the innings, India was 106/2, with Suryakumar (39*) and Suryakumar (40*) unbeaten.

Ishan reached his half-century, his fourth in T20Is in just 37 balls, with two fours and four sixes. The left-hander attempted to punish Sangha with a four and six. However, a third attempt to clear the ropes was caught by Short. Ishan walked back for 58 off 39 balls, with two fours and five sixes. India was 134/3 in 12.3 overs.

India reached the 150-run mark in 14.2 overs.

Tilak played some good shots but lost his wicket to Sangha after being caught by Stoinis at extra cover for 12. India was 154/4 in 14.5 overs.

A knuckle ball was delivered by Jason Behrendorff and Suryakumar skied it, got caught by Aaron Hardie. Surya went back for 80 off 42 balls, with nine fours and four sixes. India was 194/5 in 17.4 overs.

India reached the 200-run mark in 18.5 overs with the help of a four from Rinku Singh.

On India's Batting In WC 2023 Final, Gambhir's 'Not Brave Enough' Verdict

Former Indian cricket team batter Gautam Gambhir was not pleased with the approach taken by Rohit Sharma and Co while batting in the Cricket World Cup 2023 final against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. India were all out for 240 and in response, Travis Head played a phenomenal knock to guide the Aussies to a record-extending sixth World Cup title. Gambhir pointed out that it is the 'most courageous' team who have the advantage in games like the World Cup final and the Indian batters were not aggressive or courageous in their approach after a good start.

“I have always maintained this - the most courageous team will go on to win the World Cup. I can understand that for some time you want to build a partnership. But 11-40 overs is a very long period of time. India should have accelerated and taken a risk at that stage," Gambhir told Sportskeeda

“I actually would have liked India going really aggressive with the top six, seven batters. Even if they got all out for 150, I would have been fine. But you scored 240 and thought you can fight. In World Cup finals, you don't fight - it has to be either this way or that way. That is the approach I would have taken. Either we go 150 all out or 300. That is what India has lacked and this is why India has not gone on to win ICC tournaments,” the former Indian cricket team opener added.

Rohit scored a quickfire 47 to provide a brilliant foundation for the Indian batters but a sluggish run rate meant that despite Virat Kohli and KL Rahul's half-centuries, they failed to post a competitive total.

“Probably Rohit should have sent that message before the start of the game that even if I get out, we are going aggressive. Virat's role is to anchor the innings from one end, but rest all the other batters go hard. If you are able to take five singles in an over, that is also called positive cricket. But, if you are playing 4-5 dot balls in an over, the game is going nowhere."

“If Virat was in, KL should have gone. He should have said that, I am going to take those risks. We might have got out for 150, but imagine if we were brave and had scored 310, you could have won the World Cup. India were not brave enough, courageous enough and that's where we lost the finals,” Gambhir concluded.

Perth Scorchers Women vs Melbourne Stars Women: Fantasy XI

Perth Scorchers Women will lock horns with Melbourne Stars Women in Match 50 of the Women's Big Bash League 2023 on November 22. The Western Australia Cricket Association Ground in Perth will host this clash, scheduled to begin at 2:40 PM IST. Talking about teams' performances, the Perth Scorchers have been in superb form in WBBL 2023, winning eight and losing four of their 12 matches so far. Currently, they stand second in the points table and can reclaim the top spot with a win in their upcoming match. On the other hand, Melbourne Stars have endured a poor campaign with just four wins out of 12 matches thus far. They have managed to collect just eight points, resulting in their elimination from the ongoing campaign.

Weather conditions

The temperature at the WACA Stadium in Perth is anticipated to be around 38C accompanied by 19% humidity.

Pitch report

The wicket at the WACA Stadium in Perth is renowned for its pace and bounce, which assists the fast bowlers in getting the breakthroughs for their teams.

In the five Women's T20Is played at the venue, the teams fielding first have won on four occasions.

PS-W vs MS-W predicted playing XI

Perth Scorchers Women: Sophie Devine (c), Beth Mooney (wk), Maddy Darke, Natalie Sciver-Brunt, Amy Edgar, Amy Jones, Alana King, Piepa Cleary, Lilly Mills, Taneale Peschel, Chloe Ainsworth

Melbourne Stars Women: Annabel Sutherland (c), Sophia Dunkley, Maia Bouchier, Alice Capsey, Sophie Reid (wk), Nicole Faltum, Kim Garth, Olivia Henry, Sasha Moloney, Milly Illingworth, Sophie Day

PS-W vs MS-W fantasy XI WBBL 2023

Wicket-keepers: Beth Mooney

Batters: Sophia Dunkley

All-rounders: Natalie Sciver-Brunt, Amy Edgar, Sophie Devine, Annabel Sutherland, Alice Capsey, Kim Garth

Bowlers: Alana King, Sophie Day, Chloe Ainsworth

It's a 6:5 combination featuring six Perth Scorchers players.

Beth Mooney is a no-brainer pick among wicket-keepers. The Southpaw is the leading run-getter in the ongoing campaign with 535 runs at a staggering average of 66.87, including one ton and five half-centuries.

Sophia Dunkley will be the sole batter in this lineup dominated by the all-rounders. Even though the right-handed batter hasn't been at her aggressive best, she has amassed 130 runs in 12 innings while chipping in as a part-time bowler with three wickets.

Three all-rounders each from Perth Scorchers (Natalie Sciver-Brunt, Amy Edgar & Sophie Devine) and Melbourne Stars (Annabel Sutherland, Alice Capsey, Kim Garth) will make it to our XI.

The trio of Sciver-Brunt, Edgar and Devine have played an instrumental role in Scorchers' stellar form this season. While Sciver-Brunt has piled up 117 runs in five innings, Edgar has picked up 19 wickets at an economy of 6.50 and also has 59 runs to her credit

Captain Sophie Devine has led by example, accumulating 446 runs and taking 11 wickets in 12 fixtures.

Annabel Sutherland, Alice Capsey and Kim Garth have been the positive takeaways from a rather underwhelming season for the Melbourne Stars.

Australian duo Annabel Sutherland and Kim Garth have combined for 27 wickets. Sutherland has also contributed significantly with the bat, scoring 243 runs at a strike rate of 120.29. Meanwhile, Alice Capsey has accounted for 240 runs and seven wickets in 12 matches.

Alana King, Sophie Day and Chloe Ainsworth will be our three bowlers expected to provide points through wickets.

Sophie Day, the 25-year-old spinner from Melbourne Stars, has had a breakthrough WBBL 2023 season and is currently the top wicket-taker in the tournament with 23 wickets.

Captain: Sophie Devine

The Perth Scorchers skipper has been a major force to reckon with throughout the competition and will once again look to display her all-round heroics against the Melbourne Stars.

Vice-captain: Annabel Sutherland

In Meg Lanning's absence, the onus will be on Sutherland to add important runs with the willow and help her side with the ball as well. Moreover, she has yielded an average of 88.42 fantasy points over the course of WBBL 2023 and hence, will be a good pick for vice-captaincy.

"You Can Be Indian And Also...": Glenn Maxwell's Wife Shuts 'Vile' Trolls

Glenn Maxwell's wife Vini Raman took to social media to slam trolls for posting hurtful comments online following Australia's victory over India in the Cricket World Cup 2023 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Raman criticised the social media users for their 'hateful' and 'vile' comments and added that fans can support the country of their birth without insulting anyone. It was the sixth Cricket World Cup title for Australia as they rode sensational performances from Travis Head and the bowlers to end India's unbeaten run in the competition with a comfortable six-wicket victory.

"aaaaand cue all the hateful vile DMs. stay classy... can't believe this needs to be said BUT you can be Indian and also support the country of your birth where you have been raised and more importantly the team your husband+father of your child plays in #nobrainer. take a chill pill and direct that outrage towards more important world issues," Vini wrote on social media platform Instagram.

Travis Head hit a sparkling 137 to power Australia to a record-extending sixth World Cup title in a convincing six-wicket win over India on Sunday with captain Pat Cummins describing victory as "the pinnacle of cricket".

Chasing a tricky 241 for victory in the final, Australia slipped to 47-3 before left-handed opener Head hit his second century of the tournament to steer the team home with seven overs to spare.

Head's knock, and his marathon stand of 192 with Marnus Labuschagne, unbeaten on 58, ended India's dominant run of 10 unbeaten matches at the event.

"That's huge, that's the pinnacle in cricket, winning a World Cup, especially here in India. These are the moments you remember for the rest of your life," said Cummins.

Head fell after his 120-ball knock laced with 15 fours and four sixes before Glenn Maxwell hit the winning runs to trigger wild celebrations in the Aussie camp.

"Just thrilled to be a part of it," said man-of-the-match Head who only joined up with the squad following a period of rehabilitation after he broke his hand in South Africa on the eve of the tournament.

"It's a lot better than seeing the World Cup on the couch at home (nursing his hand injury). I was a little bit nervous but Marnus played exceptionally well and soaked up all the pressure."

India's chances of ending a global trophy drought since their 2013 Champions Trophy win went up in smoke once Head got going with Labuschagne.

Head's century was the seventh in a World Cup final and third by an Australian after Ricky Ponting (140 not out v India in 2003) and Adam Gilchrist (149 v Sri Lanka in 2007).

Suryakumar Yadav Named India Captain For T20I Series Against Australia

Suryakumar Yadav has been named Indiacricket team's captain for the five-match T20I series against Australia that starts on November 23, 2023, in Visakhapatnam. The squad bears fresh look as most stars who were part of the Indian cricket team at the Cricket World Cup have been rested.  Opener Ruturaj Gaikwad has been named as vice-captain for the series against the newly-crowned ODI champions. The hosts picked only three players from the ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 squad – Prasidh Krishna, Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar himself. However, Shreyas Iyer will join the squad for the last two T20Is in Raipur and Bengaluru and he will take over the role of vice-captain from Gaikwad.

Thiruvananthapuram will host the second T20I while Guwahati will host the third T20I.

Hardik Pandya, India's star all-rounder who led Men in Blue in T20Is in many series this year, will miss out due to ankle injury sustained during the Cricket World Cup league stage match against Bangladesh. Sanju Samson does not find a place in the squad.

Among the players who have been picked, the performances of the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma and Rinku Singh will be closely watched as India begin a phase where they would want to give fresh faces a chance, with the 2024 T20 World Cup a year away.

Among the bowlers are Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan, Mukesh Kumar and Ravi Bishnoi. All of them have enough experience in T20s and have played for India. Axar Patel, Washington Sundar and Shivam Dubey are the all-rounders in the squad. Jitesh Sharma is the back-up wicketkeeper.

The selected stars have been star performers in the Indian Premier League. With the BCCI selectors showing an inclination to give the younger lot a longer rope in the T20I format, the selected players would be eager to seal their spot for a longer duration with next year's T20 World up in focus.

India's squad: Suryakumar Yadav (Captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad (vice-captain), Ishan Kishan, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Shivam Dubey, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Avesh Khan, Mukesh Kumar. Shreyas Iyer will join the squad as vice-captain for the last two T20Is in Raipur and Bengaluru.

Australia's Victory In Ahmedabad Caps The Best World Cup Win, Says Vaughan

Former England captain Michael Vaughan rated Australia's World Cup triumph as the best in the tournament's history after they upstaged a rampaging India in front of a vociferous crowd of over one lakh, completing a remarkable comeback following a horror start to their campaign. Entering the final after 10 wins on the trot, India were the overwhelming favourites in the summit showdown but Australia played a near-perfect game to emerge triumphant for a record-extending sixth title. "Australia's victory in Ahmedabad caps the best World Cup win I can remember in my time playing and covering cricket," Vaughan began his column in the 'Daily Telegraph'. "To beat this India team, in front of more than 100,000 Indian supporters, on a pitch meant to suit the hosts, is an extraordinary sporting achievement, especially after starting the tournament with two losses," he added. Australia bowled out India for a below par 240 after skipper Pat Cummins opted to field first at the 1,30,000 capacity Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday.

Having overcome an early wobble, the visitors completed the chase of 241 in 43 overs, the result plunging the home team's throng of supporters into deep mourning.

The victory impressed Vaughan, so much so that he placed the feat of the current Australian players in the same league as the ones achieved by the likes of legendary Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist, Shane Warne, Steve Waugh, Glenn McGrath and Matthew Hayden etc in the late 1990s and in early to mid 2000s.

"This group of Australian players had the misfortune of following one of the greatest teams in history, that of the nineties and noughties. It is difficult to always be compared to legends of the past.

"By winning a World Cup in India, the hardest place to do it, they have now achieved something the greats of old never did. I think some of these names – Warner, Smith, Cummins, Starc, Hazlewood – should now stand with Ponting, Waugh, Gilchrist, Warne and McGrath. They are a special team," Vaughan said.

"It's been a very consistent group of Australia players. Seven of the squad won the World Cup in 2015, and 10 of them won T20 World Cup in 2021.

"Eight of the XI are part of the side that won the World Test Championship this year, and have shown they can compete in all conditions, which not all teams can, in India an England this year.

"They deserve a huge amount of respect. They are the best cricket team in the world across formats. Even us English can't deny them that mantle right now. Not even morally!"

Speaking about India's obsession with the sport, Vaughan felt the game is getting bigger and bigger in this part of the world thanks largely to the IPL.

"As much as we all have a go at the BCCI - and I stand by my criticism of the pitch antics this week - we have to recognise that what India brings to our game is very special.

"We could only dream of the whole nation being obsessed with our game in the UK. It can become a goldfish bowl, but it was interesting to see David Beckham come here, to learn what cricket in India is all about and the level of attention these players get.

"Virat has 263m followers on Instagram, which is more than three times what Beckham has. That shows how big cricket is here," Vaughan wrote.

The massive Indian market drives cricket, and Vaughan called the country the sport's "point of difference".

"Football is a global sport, so is a bit different, but India is cricket's point of difference over every other rivals: billions of people obsessed with our game. It's been great to see that in full view over the last few weeks."

"We Were Not Good Enough": Rohit After World Cup Final Loss

The Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team won everything on its way to the final of the Cricket World Cup but failed in the final hurdle. A strong Australian cricket team clinched a record-extending sixth World Cup title by defeating India by six wickets. For India, their decade-long wait for a major ICC Trophy continued. After the Cricket World Cup final, Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma admitted that they lost to a better team. "The result has not gone our way. We were not good enough today. We tried everything but it wasn't supposed to be. 20-30 runs more would have been good, KL and Kohli were stitching a good partnership and we were looking at 270-280 but we kept losing wickets," Rohit Sharma said after the match.

"When you have 240 on the board, you want to take wickets but credit to Head and Labuschagne for putting us out of the game, but I feel wicket got slightly better to bat under lights. Don't want to give that as an excuse. We didn't put enough runs on the board. Credit to those two guys in the middle for putting up an outstanding partnership."

India's dreams of winning a third World Cup title lay in tatters after an inexplicable meltdown saw them crash to a six-wicket defeat against an indefatigable Australia here on Sunday, plunging the cricket-obsessed country into deep mourning.
Australia thus won a record-extending sixth World Cup title, stretching their dominance in the tournament that started way back in 1975.

Put in to bat, India ended up with a below-par 240 despite contributions from Rohit Sharma (47 off 31 balls), Virat Kohli (54 off 63) and K L Rahul (66 off 107).

Just like his performance in the WTC final against India in June, Travis Head made a match-winning 137 off 120 balls as Australia chased down the target in 43 overs.

Indian hopes were raised when Australia lost three wickets for 47 but a 192-run partnership between Head and Marnus Labuschagne (58 not out) shut the door on the opposition.

Australia's brilliant bowling and fielding also went a long way in their emphatic win. The dew in the evening also made batting easier on a slow and dry surface.

India, who were the only unbeaten side going into the final after 10 wins on the trot, fell flat in the final hurdle. Their last world title came way back in 2011 and their last ICC trophy was the Champions Trophy triumph in 2013.

India's defeats in the ICC events over the past decade include the loss in 2014 World T20 final, 2016 World T20 semifinal, 2017 Champions Trophy final, 2019 ODI World Cup semifinal, 2022 T20 World Cup semifinal and back-to-back runners-up finish in the 2021 and 2023 World Test Championship cycle.

Air Pollution In Delhi Drops From 'Severe' To 'Very Poor', Curbs Revoked

The Centre on Saturday removed stringent curbs, including a ban on construction work related to linear projects and the entry of polluting trucks into Delhi, following an improvement in air quality due to an increase in the wind speed and a change in the wind direction.

These measures constitute the final stage, Stage IV, of the Centre's air pollution control plan called the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).

The Commission for Air Quality Management in National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas (CAQM), a statutory body responsible for formulating strategies to combat pollution in the region, asked Delhi and NCR states to revoke all emergency measures, under which only CNG, electric and BS VI-compliant vehicles from other states are allowed to enter Delhi, with exemptions granted to those involved in essential services.

All medium and heavy goods vehicles not engaged in essential services were also banned in the capital under Stage IV of GRAP, according to the latest CAQM order.

The pollution control body said all other curbs under stages I, II and III of GRAP, including a ban on non-essential construction work, mining, stone crushers and diesel generators will continue.   The city's 24-hour average AQI, recorded at 4 pm every day, improved from 405 on Friday to 319 on Saturday. It was 419 on Thursday, 401 on Wednesday, 397 on Tuesday, 358 on Monday, 218 on Sunday, 220 on Saturday and 279 on Friday.

Neighbouring Ghaziabad (276), Gurugram (322), Greater Noida (228), Noida (265) and Faridabad (309) also recorded "very poor" air quality.

An AQI between zero and 50 is considered "good", 51 and 100 "satisfactory", 101 and 200 "moderate", 201 and 300 "poor", 301 and 400 "very poor", 401 and 450 "severe" and above 450 "severe plus".

The air quality forecasts by the India Meteorological Department/Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology do not indicate any steep degradation in the overall air quality of Delhi-NCR in the coming days, the CAQM said.

Recent findings from a joint project by the Delhi government and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur found out that vehicular emissions accounted for about 45 per cent of the capital's air pollution on Friday. This reduced to 33 per cent on Saturday.

Secondary inorganic aerosols -- particles such as sulfate and nitrate that are formed in the atmosphere due to the interaction of gases and particulate pollutants from sources like power plants, refineries and vehicles -- is the second major contributor to Delhi's foul air, accounting for 19 to 36 per cent of the air pollution in the city over the last few days.

Delhi's air quality dropped over the last few days despite the city government implementing stringent measures, including a ban on construction work and the entry of diesel-guzzling trucks into the national capital.

According to IQAir, a Swiss company that specialises in air-quality monitoring, Delhi was the second-most polluted city in the world on Saturday after Baghdad.

Doctors say breathing in the polluted air of Delhi is equivalent to the harmful effects of smoking approximately 10 cigarettes a day.   Prolonged exposure to high levels of pollution can cause or exacerbate respiratory problems such as asthma, bronchitis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and dramatically raise the risk of cardiovascular disease, they said.   Unfavourable meteorological conditions, combined with vehicular emissions, paddy-straw burning, firecrackers and other local pollution sources, contribute to hazardous air quality levels in Delhi-NCR during winters.   According to a report compiled by the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago (EPIC) in August, air pollution is shortening lives by almost 12 years in Delhi.

KL The Keeper: How 'Dhoni' Review System' Became Decision 'Rahul' System

There was an Instagram reel by a social media influencer that went viral last year, when the interviewee was asked to decipher an incomplete footage of a DRS call. Without having a look, he says "out hai sir" and then asks the interviewer to shift the focus of the photo and there stood Mahendra Singh Dhoni behind, taking another immaculate call in what has come to be known as the 'Dhoni' Review System (DRS). But in this World Cup, it won't be a misnomer if KL Rahul gets the DRS moniker in his name and we call it the 'Decision 'Rahul' System'.

At least on five occasions over the course of the World Cup, the Indian wicket-keeper prevented an excited bowler or his skipper from raising a 'T' for the umpire.

A lot of moving parts have come together in the tournament and one of the important cogs in the wheel is Rahul, whose 386 runs at near 99 strike-rate and 77 average has slipped under the radar because of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Mohammed Shami's brilliance but he has been that calming influence which is a pre-requisite of every team.

Magnificent when in full flow and completely lousy other times, a picture of calm when in form but ready to play a dishevelled stroke now and then, Rahul has been an enigma in Indian cricket for close to a decade.

For someone with Test centuries in Sydney, Lord's and Centurion, a man of his calibre could be termed an "under-achiever" as he is no less compared to a Rohit or Kohli, when it comes to the talent quotient.

But between spells of brilliance, there has been those lulls which, also by his own admission, let self doubts creep in but in this World Cup, if anyone has been a symbol of assurance, it is Rahul, the keeper.

That catch to dismiss Devon Conway in the semi-final, would have certainly warmed the cockles of Mahendra Singh Dhoni's heart.

With 16 dismissals in 10 games (15 catches and 1 stumping), he is second only to Quinton de Kock, a specialist keeper.

For someone, who wasn't a regular keeper till a few years back, this effort has been phenomenal. What has also stood out is Rahul's judgement of DRS calls.

The reason for that is his perfect footwork behind the stumps as he has a perfect idea of where the ball finishes, says former India keeper Deep Dasgupta.

"DRS is not just a wicketkeeper's call only. The wicketkeeper can neither gauge the impact nor the height. The impact (whether pitched within stumps) is generally a bowler's call or the skipper standing at mid-on or mid-off.

"The guy stationed adjacent to square leg umpire needs to check the height while the keeper with his movement would get an idea where the ball finishes," Dasgupta explained the whole process.

From the looks of it, Rohit might not come across like that but he is way more process-oriented than a Kohli when it comes to DRS calls.

What has helped has been Rahul's presence behind the stumps as he could dissuade the bowler because of his perfect concept of where the ball could finally finish.

While Dhoni was the master of getting his DRS calls right, Dasgupta gave an interesting insight into how the legendary Indian skipper had such a high percentage of correct decisions.

"If you check the numbers, most of Dhoni's DRS calls has gone with Umpires' Call. So when India didn't get a decision, they at least kept the review. There would never be any outrageous calls. Same with Rahul. He is someone who could temper an enthusiastic bowler's expectations," Dasgupta.

Rahul's glovework has been as good as anyone and technique of letting the ball come and 'literally melt' into his gloves has been a perfect sight for the lovers of the game.

And for someone, who is not keeping Kuldeep Yadav regularly, it has been quite impressive to see how he has picked the left-arm wrist spinner from his hand and adjusted his footwork accordingly.

Dasgupta, who has been working as a broadcaster, had a chance to interact with Rahul and he felt that mentally, he thinks as a keeper and that has made a world of difference to his keeping.

"He told me during one of the interactions that he doesn't see himself as a part-time keeper and looks at himself as a keeper-batter," Dasgupta said.

It is an interesting how the shift in mindset has made the difference.

Now for people on the outside, Rahul is still specialist batter, who is keeping. So even if he is making a mistake he would never lose the war of perception and fans would be way more forgiving than what they would be if Ishan Kishan, a specialist keeper, makes the same mistake.

Rahul, indeed, has been keeper of India's fortunes.

Case Against Man After Teen Dies By Suicide In Ghaziabad: Police

A 16-year-old girl allegedly hanged herself in her house in Ghaziabad, police said on Friday.

The police have booked a man for alleged abetment to suicide in the case, they added.

Neha was found hanging from her room's ceiling fan at her house in the Sudama Puri area here on Thursday, they added.

An FIR has been lodged in this connection by her father Kushamvir at Wave City police station, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rural) Vivek Chandra Yadav said.

Neha's father alleged that he was informed by his neighbour that a man named Lucky came to his house when his daughter was alone, Mr Yadav said.

He also accused Lucky of allegedly abetting the suicide of his daughter, he added.

The DCP said the girl had called the man in the absence of her family members. One of the neighbours informed Neha's father after he spotted her with Lucky around 11 am on Thursday.

When Neha's father and brother reached home, they saw the man trying to escape from the terrace. They caught him and handed him over to the police, the DCP said.

The police are trying to ascertain whether Neha allegedly died by suicide due to fear of her parents or the Lucky provoked her. According to her call record details, Neha used to frequently speak to him over the phone, he said.

The possibility of honour killing cannot be ruled out, the DCP added.

"Lahore Keeping An Eye On Polls In Rajasthan's Tonk": BJP MP Sparks Row

Lahore is keeping an eye on elections in Rajasthan and Tonk, BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri, who recently courted controversy over his derogatory remarks in Parliament against BSP MP Danish Ali, said at a meeting of party workers.

"We will have to see whether laddus will be distributed in the country or in Lahore after the elections on the 25th... The enemy sitting outside the country is keeping an eye on this election. It is a question of our identity," Mr Bidhuri said while addressing a youth workers' meeting organised by BJP candidate in Tonk Ajit Mehta on Tuesday night. A video purportedly of Mr Bidhuri's remarks at the meeting appeared on social media on Thursday.

Sitting Congress MLA and former deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot is contesting from Tonk, which has a sizeable population of Muslim voters.

"The whole country is eagerly watching this election. Not just the country, Lahore is keeping an eye on elections in Rajasthan and Tonk. Who gives shelter to PFI people? When PFI people are caught, who provides them food? People sitting in Tonk feed them," he alleged, referring to the banned radical Islamic outfit Popular Front of India.

Participating in a discussion in Lok Sabha on September 21, Mr Bidhuri had fired a volley of objectionable words at Ali, sparking outrage. The BSP MP was later accused by some BJP members of instigating Mr Bidhuri with remarks against the Prime Minister.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla had warned Mr Bidhuri of strict action if such remarks were repeated but the opposition parties had demanded strict action against the BJP MP, including expulsion.

Mr Bidhuri's derogatory comments were condemned by his party colleagues as well, with BJP president JP Nadda issuing a show-cause notice to him.

However, nearly a week later, the South Delhi MP, who is a Gujjar leader, was appointed as Tonk district election incharge in Rajasthan, where voting will be held on November 25. Opposition leaders had hit out at the BJP, alleging the party "rewards hate".

"Terrorists like Hamas have an eye on this region that if someone dies in an accident, his family is given a job and Rs 50 lakh... and if an innocent Kanhaiya is murdered, then there is talk of giving Rs 5 lakh as alms," Mr Bidhuri is heard saying in the video.

Kanhaiya Kumar, a tailor in Udaipur, was murdered on June 28 last year by two cleaver-wielding men who accused him of insulting Islam.

Watch: Ex-NZ Star Copies Shastri's Commentary, Leaves Everyone In Splits

Former India captain Ravi Shastri is also famous for his lively commentary and presentation during cricket matches. In that case, there is no wonder that many aspire to develop communication skills like that of Shastri. Copying the commentary style of the ex-India star is not an easy task but it seems that former New Zealand player Ian Smith has mastered the art. During India's Cricket World Cup match against Netherlands, Smith, while sitting in the commentary box, copied the style of Shastri leaving the latter and another ex-India player Anjum Chopra in splits.

"Welcome to Bengaluru, Happy Diwali day to you all and now we shall have a toss of the coin. The almighty Richie Richardson in the middle. Now listen to me please everybody.." said Smith.

Watch it here:

Centuries from Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul powered India to a 160-run World Cup win over the Netherlands as they completed the group stage with a perfect nine wins in nine games.

Iyer (128 not out) and Rahul (102) put on 208 runs to guide India to 410-4.

India then employed nine bowlers, including part-timers Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, to dismiss the Dutch for 250 in the tournament's concluding league match in Bengaluru.

The hosts will face New Zealand in the first semi-final in Mumbai on Wednesday followed by the second last-four clash between Australia and South Africa the next day in Kolkata.

Iyer smashed his first World Cup ton in a match where all the top-five Indian batsmen went past the fifty mark on a batting-friendly pitch.

He reached his hundred -- his fourth in ODI cricket -- off 84 balls. He ended with 10 fours and five sixes.

Bengaluru-born Rahul raced to his ton with two sixes for the fastest Indian hundred in World Cups off 62 balls.

He departed four balls later as India fell short of their highest ever World Cup total of 413-5 v Bermuda in 2007.

Kohli reached his half century but fell for 51, silencing the crowd who had been anticipating the star batsman's 50th ODI ton after he equalled Sachin Tendulkar's record of 49 in the team's previous win over South Africa.

Skipper Rohit, who hit 61, and Shubman Gill laid the foundations for the total in an opening stand of 100 with the pair hitting regular boundaries.

Gill fell for 51 off Paul van Meekeren and fellow quick Bas de Leede dismissed Rohit after the captain reached his fourth 50-plus score including a ton in the tournament.
